Temple Hatikvah Homestead Jewish Center is the proud co-sponsor of THELAST SURVIVOR, on  Sunday, April 1st at Alper JCC in Kendall, 3:00 PM.

Please join us for an unforgettable screening experience featuring producer, director and Miami native, Michael Pertnoy.

Hailed by critics as “staggeringly powerful,” The Last Survivor is a film that follows the lives of Survivors from the Holocaust, Rwanda, Darfur and Congo, as they seek to remind the world, and each other, that we all share a common bond – our humanity.

“Each Survivor’s story is one of triumph over trauma, and we hope that audiences respond to their courage and perseverance as much as we have,” Michael Pertnoy, the film’s Co-Director explains. “When we made the film, our objective was not to dwell on the tragedies of the past, but rather to understand how we can prevent atrocities in the future.”

The three Miami screenings are part of The Last Survivor Outreach Campaign, which began in recognition of Genocide Prevention Month. On the heels of what some are calling President Obama’s “Never Again” doctrine, and as genocide prevention becomes a major foreign policy priority, Righteous Pictures believes it is imperative that communities in the U.S. are educated about the factors and behaviors that lead to genocide so that they will be better equipped to take an active role in advocating against it and ultimately, in preventing it.

Local Jewish institutions working together to bring this unique experience to Miami include: Aventura Turnberry Jewish Center, Bet Beira Samu El Or Olam, Bet Shira Congregation, Beth Torah Benny Rok Campus, CAJE-Miami Jewish Film Festival, Homestead Jewish Center, Dave and Mary Alper Jewish Community Center, Jewish Community Relations Council, Michael Ann Russell Jewish Community Center, Temple Beth Am, Temple Beth Or, Temple Beth Sholom, Temple Sinai of North Dade.

All screenings will be free and open to the public, though advanced reservations are required.  More details to follow – stay tuned!
